Christmas Film Reviews is a non-commercial site. We keep as little about you as we can, we never sell it, and you can delete your account and everything in it whenever you like from your account page.
What we store, and why
- Your email address, so you can sign in. If you sign in with Google, we also store Google's ID for your account (not your password; we never see it).
- The name you choose, shown next to your ratings and reviews.
- What you do here: your ratings, reviews, “Is it a Christmas film?” votes, film suggestions, watchlist, the people you're a fan of, and any reviews you mark as helpful or report.
- The country and region of each rating, so it can count towards local Nice Lists. Cloudflare, our host, works this out from your connection when you rate. We store the place, not your IP address.
- Sign-in records: emailed sign-in links (which expire after 20 minutes) and a record of each signed-in browser (which lasts 30 days).
We use this to run the site: to sign you in, show your ratings and lists, and build the rankings. We rely on our legitimate interest in running the site you've chosen to use.
Cookies
We only use cookies that the site needs to work: one keeps you signed in, one remembers the name to show in the menu, and one is used for a few minutes while you sign in with Google. There are no advertising or tracking cookies, so there's no cookie banner.
Visitor statistics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. It doesn't use cookies and doesn't track you across other sites.
Who else is involved
- Cloudflare hosts the site and its database, and runs the spam check on the sign-in form (Turnstile).
- Resend sends sign-in emails.
- Google, only if you choose to sign in with Google.
- TMDB provides film details, posters and photos. Images load from TMDB's servers, so TMDB receives the usual technical details (such as your IP address) when your browser fetches them. Streaming information comes from JustWatch via TMDB.
How long we keep things
For as long as you have an account. When you delete your account, your ratings, reviews, votes, suggestions, watchlist and fan votes are deleted with it, and your ratings drop out of the rankings. Backups of the database are kept for a short time and then deleted.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. You can delete everything yourself from your account page. For anything else, emailhello@christmasfilmreviews.co.uk (hello@christmasfilmreviews.co.uk). You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Children
You need to be 13 or over to create an account. Anyone can browse the site without one.
Changes
If we change how we use your information, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
